Bühler Motor: Allied with the sun

Bühler Motor Monheim: Solar panel roof near completion

Bühler Motor invests in the Monheim site for utilization of sun energy.

Since 1 October electrical power is gained on the roofs of the Bühler factory in Monheim and is fed directly into the grid. At about 5,500 m² almost the complete roof area of the building of Bühler Motor in Monheim is utilized for catching sun energy

1,574 modules with maximum power of 283.3 kilowatts peak (kWp) are producing annually about 285,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of clean electric power. By means of photovoltaic technology more than 168.15 tons of CO2 are saved, year after year.

Begin of July mounting of the solar panels commenced after thoroughly preparatory works. However, beforehand the roof had been provided with an extra bright coating in a color with the name Dolomite grey, in the scope of a complete retrofitting action. With this measure alone the reflection of the solar modules is being improved to a grade which increases the energy output by nearly 10%.

By the way, the sun catchers on the roof contribute in several respects to a better climate. They do not only deliver clean electric power but provide also cooler rooms during the summer. The temperatures in the production hall will be lowered by up to 5°C during summer times, thanks to the new roofing

For the realization of this project the staff from Bühler Motor has been supported by the company SunConcept (www.sunconcept.net) as competent partner. SunConcept has installed only in 2009 solar collection systems with a total power of 15 megawatts successfully, and has thus proven to be a competent and powerful partner for the realization at Bühler Motor.

The photovoltaic solar power plant is a further step of Bühler Motor on its way to a „GreenTech-Company“. Already for many years Bühler favors a successful 3 columns strategy for environmental protection: environment and resources saving production of highly efficient and innovative drive solutions for reliable functioning of applications for energy saving in building automation, in industrial automation or in the automotive industry.
