Bühler Motor has expanded and optimized its Central Metrology department at a massive scale.

Nuremberg, 26th August 2011 – Ceiling-high glass screens provide an unobstructed view of the work done in the measuring rooms. State-of-the-art technology, an elaborate arrangement of the lavish working areas, a smart, demand-actuated lighting and an equally efficient and unobtrusive A/C make for dependable measurements at all times.

An upstream area serves as both the storage facility for samples and back-up measuring equipment and the main feedthrough to the screened measuring area. It is here where the test pieces are cleaned, brought to the correct temperature and, if need be, re-packaged.

Adjacent we find a test lab, here, materials are mainly tested for their hardness, tractive and com-pressive force, layer thickness etc. From the test lab, you will reach an accuracy class 3 measuring room for 3-coordinate measuring technology.

Only now will you be able to access the measuring room for measurements of utmost precision and for the calibration of the measuring equipment. The technology is mounted on a specially installed wall, which leaves all other walls totally smooth, thereby reducing all air turbulence to a minimum. Behind this technology wall is a lavishly dimensioned service shaft which allows servicing at the mains, the electric installation and the control elements without obstruct the work done in the measuring room. “Not only have we attained accuracy class 2 with this room, we even exceed that class by a huge margin,” says a proud Rainer Osterloh, Bühler Motor GmbH’s Quality Manager Metrology.
